Happy Birthday Chloe

The Happy Birthday cards are from her Granny and Papa.
Hardly seems possible that a year has already gone by since we viewed through the nursery glass our very first great grand child, and to get to hold her the following day was even better. Thank you Beckie and Kevin for graciously sharing her with us.

I realize that I certainly have been very neglectful in posting any messages, and I felt that reminder again today, as I logged on to add these few lines
I some times feel that the happenings in my world are of little interest to those who may stop by, but I need to realize how I appreciate being able to read the happenings of others, so if some one should stop by this blog I need to update some news for you to read.
I am sure all readers have checked out Lew and Kathy's Blog, if not please do so. Lew has posted a wonderful posting of a tribute to our families who have lost loved ones and of those that are ill.
I will only add that since Tuesday the events that have unfolded have been like a roller coaster ride for me, and for anyone like me who does not enjoy the ride you will perhaps be able to relate to my comparison.
On a brighter note, please check out Beckie's blog for the latest update on our beloved great, granddaughter.

Happy New Year

Here it is time to ring out the year 2007 and welcome 2008.
2007 was a special year for us as we were introduced to our very first great grand daughter and what a delight she has been. For 2008 we are looking forward to seeing her do many new things, and also to see what else may be in store for us this year. However we realise that there will be sorrows mixed in along the way as we have learned from previous years so we will try to accept those and carry on.
So from our house to yours we wish you a Happy New Year with health and happiness.

Christmas Season

Here it is the count down as 1 week from tonight is Christmas eve, and we just wanted to share a view of the festive decoration from our apartment. We also want to wish everyone who may read our blog "Merry Christmas."

This is our balcony, and above the railing some city lights can be seen in the distance

Here is our small village and for a lack of a better place the top of the organ is where it is displayed this year.

A Chloe Visit

Today was a visit with Chloe, although her Mom and I spent the day working on Sunday School material we still had time to enjoy her, especially great grandpa.
Here are some pictures of Chloe all decked out in her holiday cap which was gift from her secret admirer.

Don't you think I'm cute

Remembering

As we remember today, we did that first by going to church to remember the greatest sacrifice that was ever made, of a type of war between good and evil, and yet a way provided to save man kind from the enemy "Satan".
Yes; today being "Remembrance Day" we also have taken time to remember family members who in times past have encountered wars of various kinds and have sacrificed to make our world and yes, Canada a better place to live. These brave men all gave an example of sacrifice and not each the same.
This may be a lengthier posting than my usual, so I hope you will stay with me as I reflect back on mainly the Young family in respect to the sacrifice paid for war during the past few centuries.
1776- is part of our history at the time of the American Revolution war, where 5 ancestor grandfathers fought against America in allegiance to the British crown, losing what possessions they had and of their escape to Canada for refuge. Their story is one of tremendous sacrifice.
1800’s- another generation of ancestor Grandfathers served in the Militia that was formed to fight against the American fisherman who invaded the waters off the Gaspe` coast, and again sacrifice was involved.
1915- Cal’s mother’s first husband was killed on September 18, 1916, during WW1; an ulimate sacrifice who left a son whom he had never seen.
1915- Cal’s dad served in the war from Nov 1915-Jan 1918, discharged for heath reasons due to shrapnel wounds. His sacrifice was the mark that was left on his health that was there throughout his lifetime.
1941-1945- Cal’s step brother fought during that war.
2006- Sept 18; nephew Keith Morely paid the ultimate sacrifice in Afganistan, but what a tribute the Manitoba Government has paid in having one of its unnamed lakes named in his memory.
1941-I want to give tribute to another family member Ed Elford who paid a great sacrifice at the time of that war. Refusing to carry a gun he was sent to a camp in northern Sask. to assist in building roads with pick and shovel as a means of punishment, as not many years later the road no longer existed. Another sacrifice was when they refused him a leave to be with his wife Helen when they lost their first child
I hope if you have taken the time to read my post that you have remembered your loved ones. LEST WE FORGET.

Trick or Treat

I do believe that summer is just not quite ready to leave with a temperature of 20, so this was a day to enjoy. I am told it is going to be short lived, but we'll take more of today anytime.
It was a perfect day to dig out the Xmas lights an hang them on the balcony. Even if its only the rabbits, deer, and coyotes that see them from outside we get to view them from the living
room, so yes Cal did a good job. Oh course Hallowe'en is still to come, and our complex has bought the treats, have them bagged for the "trick or treater's" and will now wait to enjoy seeing all the costumes that the mom's & dad's have created.
