today being "Remembrance Day" we also have taken time to remember family members who in times past have encountered wars of various kinds and have sacrificed to make our world and yes, Canada a better place to live. These brave men all gave an example of sacrifice and not each the same.
This may be a lengthier posting than my usual, so I hope you will stay with me as I reflect back on mainly the Young family in respect to the sacrifice paid for war during the past few centuries.
1776- is part of our history at the time of the American Revolution war, where 5 ancestor grandfathers fought against America in allegiance to the British crown, losing what possessions they had and of their escape to Canada for refuge. Their story is one of tremendous sacrifice.
1800’s- another generation of ancestor Grandfathers served in the Militia that was formed to fight against the American fisherman who invaded the waters off the Gaspe` coast, and again sacrifice was involved.
1915- Cal’s mother’s first husband was killed on September 18, 1916, during WW1; an ulimate sacrifice who left a son whom he had never seen.
1915- Cal’s dad served in the war from Nov 1915-Jan 1918, discharged for heath reasons due to shrapnel wounds. His sacrifice was the mark that was left on his health that was there throughout his lifetime.
1941-1945- Cal’s step brother fought during that war.
2006- Sept 18; nephew Keith Morely paid the ultimate sacrifice in Afganistan, but what a tribute the Manitoba Government has paid in having one of its unnamed lakes named in his memory.
1941-I want to give tribute to another family member Ed Elford who paid a great sacrifice at the time of that war. Refusing to carry a gun he was sent to a camp in northern Sask. to assist in building roads with pick and shovel as a means of punishment, as not many years later the road no longer existed. Another sacrifice was when they refused him a leave to be with his wife Helen when they lost their first child
I hope if you have taken the time to read my post that you have remembered your loved ones. LEST WE FORGET.

Trick or Treat

I do believe that summer is just not quite ready to leave with a temperature of 20, so this was a day to enjoy. I am told it is going to be short lived, but we'll take more of today anytime.
It was a perfect day to dig out the Xmas lights an hang them on the balcony. Even if its only the rabbits, deer, and coyotes that see them from outside we get to view them from the living

room, so yes Cal did a good job. As usual we met up with Gordon and Mildred at the Fairgrounds where they park their Motor Home along with thousands of others. Of course from there we made our way to the Royal Fork, which is always enjoyable. Then Wednesday and Thursday is two full day for us from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM were we enjoy alot of good entertainment but that time frame does not allow one to see it all by any means.

Due to shortage of Motel Rooms, that are pre-reserved for Tour Buses, we stay in a private home that was arranged for us four years ago, and we have stayed with them each year since then, and they assured us the room would be there for us another year. They have been an excellent "host family" so we have appreciated Hostfest Central for selecting them for us. After taking in two days of WCC Lectureship in Regina last week end and away to Minot, that will be our October get away, but we'll have to wait and see what November brings.

Happy Thanksgiving

In a few days we will be having our Canadian Thanksgiving. So yes I need to do a bit of updating, although by checking the other family blogs you will find lots of updates especially of Chloe.

Speaking of Chloe we had her all to ourselves this afternoon while her Mom was at another appointment.

She is certainly getting her own personality, and does she love her veggies always ready for the next bite, and puts on a little show while waiting. She is very entertaining.

This week end we plan to attend Western Christian College Lectureship in Regina, then the following Tuesday we are off to Minot for our annual "time away" for Norsk hostfest. So again we are reminded we live in Saskatchewan, camping weather last week and now bring on the "woolies" . Of course there is a chance the forcast may be wrong, but whatever comes we almost have the assurance that Autumn with more summer weather will be forth coming.
We enjoyed having Beckie bring Chloe over for a visit yesterday, we had lunch and some bonding time.
Of course in the news was a reminder that the day was 9 11 and so our minds went back in time to six years ago when we drove down North Washington St in Washington DC nearing the Capital Building in anticipation of a wonderful sight seeingday only to encounter the caos of what the morning had brought to that area as well as New York City. The end result of our visit was to be ordered by officials to make our way to the nearest exit and out of the city as quickly as possible. So although we can say we have been in Washington DC, we never set foot out side the car. However I do know that a week ago we were introduced to "Facebook" . We will have to admit that this being a new adventure took us awhile to get onto the process, but with the help and encouragement of 4 family members (Lew, Brett, Beckie and Kevin) we have mastered a small potion of it , and finding out that it can become addicting, but we have enjoyed connecting with family and friends that has taken us to so many places.
So thanks again to our kids for your confidence and patience with us while we tried to catch on, so needless to say that has been where much of our time has gone.
Also Beckie introduced me to " Scrapblogging" and even set up a trial run, but sorry Beck's I haven't even looked at it since and if, and when I ever find what you did I will likely need another lesson.
Today seems like fall is looming in the air, so it's another reminder of where has the summer gone.
The past months we have been enjoying watching our 'Great Granddaughter' advance through different stages, from a new born, to smiling, laughing outloud, and now to the roll over. Check out Beckie's blog for the latest video and pictures. The past four months have again been a reminder of "Where Has The Time Gone"

Elkhorn, Man Reunion

We had another enjoyable Reunion in Elkhorn, Man. this past weekend August 3-5. The 40 years had special meaning and memories for us, the 40 years ago was meant to remember the opening of the newly built church building, but for us it was 40 years this last March that our family moved to the campus at WCC to become part of the staff. We looked after the cafeteria, but the summer of 1967 (40 years ago) we also became dorm parents which continued on and off as needed for the next 9 years. So this picture was taken remencenes of that time, and pictured here with us and Lew are some of our girls that were residents of the dorm in 1967. Included in this picture are three girls who lived on campus, and even though they were not dorm residents they still made up our dorm family. Besides being able to see some of our girls again we also enjoyed spending time with a host of friends whose friendship then and now is very special to us.

Buffalo Pound Camping

We were out of the city at the time but this is what greeted us on our arrival home and as we drove into our parking space we couldn't imagine what this white stuff was until we walked closer to the building. Although it was hail it appeared when we saw it more like chopped ice. The south side recieved the worst taking away beautiful flowers in beds and on decks. I am hoping that others may have taken a picture when the ground was completly covered ankle deep as this one doesn't tell it like it was.

But what can we say, other than this is Saskatchewan.

Happy Canada Day

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5082057318860814498" style="FLOAT: left; Hopefully you all have been checking in on the other family members Blog and have been awed at how Chloe is growing.

We have spent since the 16th of June at Buffalo Pound, and have enjoyed the relaxation as well as time spent with family.

Good Pictures -- But........

Irene has posted some good pictures from our balcony, but to see them a little closer, just click on the picture and it will come "alive",. The intent of the picture was to get a nice picture of the green Saskatchewan car as it is very nicely done. But being the poor photgrapher that I am, and not knowing that I could zoom in, it really doesn't look like much other than something green. We may try later for a better one with the real photographer "Cal".

This week we treated ourselves to some entertainment. On Tuesday eveing we went to listen to the Scott Woods Band. This was excellent if you like violin music with lots of variety. Check out his web site www.scottwoods.ca/ Then on Friday and Saturday afternoons we spent in Regina at their Multicultural Festival, which was another enjoyable time for us. We are thankful that we can still get to these various functions and have our health to do so.

Crestview Manor Our Home

Yes Cretview Manor has been our home for the past ten years, and we have thoroughly enjoyed living here. On occassion we see two or three water fountains going and usually can watch the ducks or geese.

Yes that is a railway track seen here. It is only a side rail line so we don't see alot of trains, but its another view for us when they do pass.

This view is more of a SE angle and although it is much the same as the one above this shows the walking trail. So again another interesting view we have of seeing people strolling by, it may be parents with children, some walking their dog, and leisurely bike rides by all ages.
They tell us the winter view has its beauty as well, but we will have to wait till then to see.

Move Completed

Our move has now finally been completed and we have did the required cleaning of our vacated suite, the rugs will be cleaned soon and then it will be ready for the new residents.
We are feeling very much at home now and of course enjoying the view, which is much different than the parking lot view. Hopefully we will get a picture or two and post them for you.
We even have had our great granddaughter come by for a visit, so that was special. I am sure anyone reading this posting has already been keeping up to date on Lew and Kathy’s blog and seeing all the pictures as well. Brett has a great collection of pictures posted.
So there should be no one doubting the fact that Chloe is a loved little girl and a special addition to our family of which we can claim.
I really haven’t minded the fact that I am now a "great grandmother" that was until I read this quote in the book "Chicken Soup" that I received for Mother’s day, and it says
" A friend of mine was asked how she liked having her first great grandchild. It wasn't a major move, if so we would have been calling, but we did fine.
However the next move will likely be their obligation, so Lew and Kathy if you are really feeling left out that thought will give you something to look forward too.
Our apartment number is 309 on the same floor as we were, only closer to the elevator, we have a golf course view, so what more could we want.

Our Great Grandbaby

I know you have probably seen this picture on Lew or Brett's blog, but this one is indeed a favorite of mine and I just had to include it in this post.

Here it is Wednesday and and if the events were happening as previously planned we would all be anticipating her arrival that was scheduled for 10:15 A.M. No one is dissappointed that she is already here and have had 3 days to enjoy her. I was granted a great grandmother privilage yesterday in that I was able to spend about six hours with her and Beckie as it was back to work day for the dad and grandparents. Beckie still was needing a little assistance so an extra set of hands were there to help out where needed.

We are so blessed and thankful that she is such a healthy and bright baby, and we are also thankful for the safe arrival yesterday of Kerrie and Darren's baby girl. Our visit there was a two fold mission, one was to attend the Weyburn Church of Christ Song Fest, but the other of course was to spend some time with Mildred and Gordon. That's always an enjoyable time, and of course even to the ROOK games that go with it.
Not long after our return home we got the call that Beckie was already at the hospital, and that the doctors where on their way. Our time of waiting for news came shortly after six that we were indeed great grandparents. It certainly was an exciting time, to say the least. She is absolutely beautiful. There is no need for me to post any pictures as by clicking on Lew or Brett's blog there is definitely some there.
We are so thankful that God has blessed Beckie and Kevin with a safe delivery, and a lovely healthy daughter, and of course our prayers will continue that God will give them wisdom and understanding as they begin their role of Christian parents.

A Sense Of Relief

If you remember or you may look back in my postings to January 15th of a deep concern we had of observing adult abuse which was against a mother by her one and only child, who had power of attorney . This has continued on in one form or another since then and months before. To be more specific, the mother has been a resident of our apartment block since 1983, and for her neighbors it was very hard to see the treatment she was so undeservingly getting. She was being denied the care of professionals that she needed. As some of you know this developed into legal council being sought for our apartment as well as her other family members; one in particular seeking guardianship of the mother. After delays, and four months later the court judge gave his ruling on the guardianship case and it was ruled in favour of the sister-in-law. This caused a consensus to be reached between the daughter’s lawyer, and our lawyer, giving the daughter until April 9th at 5:00 PM to empty the apartment and turn the keys in. However the moving van appeared here this morning and loaded the contents from the apartment.
So for those of us who have been concerned, lost sleep, dealt with the court system, we are feeling somewhat a sense of relief tonight, knowing that the mother is in care at a Personal Care Home, guardianship has been granted to one who will see that she gets the care she needs, the daughter has gone, and we here at the apartment are free from the most bizarre situation.

I thought the picture may indicate a peaceful sense of relief.
So to end my post Easter Blessings to all, and enjoy the weekend.
Irene

A Pleasant Afternoon

I guess I have been neglectful at posting this past while, it just didn’t seem as though any of my weekly events would be worth posting for any one to read. That is until this afternoon.
It began on a very pleasant note, as we attended, with invitation to join the students and teachers in the Gym at Ross School for some entertainment. This was put on by the kid’s choir and we were also treated to the cheer-leaders as they performed some of their cheers.
I perhaps should clarify that it wasn’t just we two who received the invitation, but it was open to any of our residents here at the apartment. We have for about the last four to five years been treated to the Ross school choir coming here to entertain us, so on this occasion we were invited there. It certainly was much appreciated, and they did so well, as all school kids do.
We had another pleasant surprise when we saw our "paper girl" Burkie Harris, of about seventeen or more years ago there as a teacher, and also to see her mother receiving a token of appreciation for being a volunteer coach for one of the sports. During the time Burkie, and before that her brother delivered papers, their Mom did her share of it as well as collecting, so we enjoyed touching base again. By the way, Brett and Beckie you will know this lady as Mrs Harris.

Why God Created Children

To those of us who have children in our lives, Whether they are our own, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren or nieces and nephews... here is something for you.
Whenever your children or granchildren are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to His own children.
After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And the first thing he said was "DON'T!" "Don't what?" Adam replied. "Don't eat the forbidden fruit." God said.
"Forbidden fruit ? We have forbidden fruit? Hey Eve., we have forbidden fruit!"
"No Way!" "Yes Way!" "DO NOT EAT THE FRUIT! " said God.
"BUT WHY?" they asked
"Because I am your Father and I said so! " God replied, wondering why He hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants. A few minutes later, God saw His children having an apple break and He was NOT PLEASED! "Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit? " God asked.
"Uh huh," Adam replied. "Then why did you? " said the Father. "I don't know," said Eve.
"She started it! " Adam said.
"Did not! " "Did too! " "DID NOT! "
Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve should have children of their own.
Thus the pattern was set and it has never changed.

BUT THERE IS REASSURANCE IN THE STORY!

If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself. If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for you?
                                               THINGS TO THINK ABOUT!

1.You spend the first two years of their life teaching them to walk and talk. Then you spend the next sixteen telling them to sit down and be quiet.
2.Mothers of teens now know why some animals eat their young.
3.Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said.
4.The main purpose of holding children's parties is to remind yourself that there are children more misbehaved than your own.
5. Parents childproof their homes, but they are still getting in.
6. However as you read the postings on Lew & Kathy’s, Brett’s, and Beckie & Kevin’s blog its easy to get the feeling that there is more than a hint of interest and excitement building as they anticipate baby’s arrival.
However I do have something of interest I want to share in my posting as its not every day
that I get to anticipate what it will be like to be a Great Grandmother.
This special arrival will be the first of many things, first child, first grandchild, first time uncle, and first great grandchild. How special!! as we get to anticipate what this will be like.
Anticipation is different for each one, and I know Beckie has shared some of hers, but have you thought that baby may have anticipations too.
The following was sent to me by way of e-mail, and I feel it is very fitting to be included in this posting.

A Newborns Conversation With God
A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"
God said "your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."
The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don’t have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."
God said "Your angel will sing to you and will also smile for you, and you will feel your angel’s love and be very happy."
And again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don’t know the language?"
God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."
"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you,?
God said your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."
"Who will protect me?"
God said your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."
"But I will always be sad because I won’t see you anymore."
God said, " Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you."
At that time there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth
could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, " God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angels name."
God said you will simply call her , "Mom."

So this is for you Beck's, and all mothers.

Better Late Than Never

Even though February 27th 2007 is soon history, it's not too late to say that we have been thinking of 27 years ago. Lest we forget we do live in Saskatchewan were the weather patterns change quickly, so by Saturday morning it was a beautiful bright day that made our journey to Weyburn that much more enjoyable. Our trip there was to attend the wedding of Joshua Kot and Michelle McLeod, yes, this is Twyla's son, and even though hard to believe these once little kids are now mature adults I only have to look close to home and realize how time is going by very quickly.
Back to the wedding it was very nice and as you can see by the picture, Josh picked a lovely bride.
Standing on the steps behind Josh and Michelle is Jackie, John and Twyla's daughter and also Kristen, their daughter-
in-law as of last July
I would have to say this is pretty good photography, by the one who loves his digital.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5033383361932739538" style="FLOAT: right; The reports I heard seemed to suggest that it was her outward beauty and accomplishment of centerfold in Play Boy magazine that made her popular. Can you imagine that being the ultimate goal of beauty?
Unless I missed something in the news reports I don’t remember any mention given to her "inward beauty" qualities, perhaps none were visible, or perhaps they were not seen as important as what was needful for the "outward beauty" to be protrayed.
It was only by coincidence that I came across this article yesterday, and I would like to share it, as to me it gives the word beauty a different but true meaning.

A beauty product company once asked people in a large city to send pictures, along with brief letters, describing the most beautiful woman they knew. Within weeks, thousands of letters came in.
One letter caught the attention of the employees and was soon passed on to the company president. It was written by a boy from a broken home, who lived in a run-down neighborhood. With lots of spelling corrections, an excerpt from his letter read: "A beautiful woman lives down the street from me. She makes me feel like the most important kid in the world. We play checkers and she listens to my problems. She understands me. When I leave she always yells out the door that she’s proud of me." The boy ended his letter saying, she is the most beautiful woman in the world, and one day I hope I have a wife as pretty as her."
Intrigued by the letter, the president asked to see the woman’s picture. His secretary handed him the photograph of a smiling, toothless woman, well advanced in years, sitting in a wheelchair. Her sparse gray hair was pulled back in a bun. The wrinkles that formed deep furrows on her face were somehow diminished by the twinkle in her eyes.
"We can’t use this woman," exclaimed this president, smiling. "She would show the world that our products aren’t necessary to be beautiful."

The life of Anna Nichol Smith and others classed as supermodels leads us to believe a Lie which says "If we are not supermodel beautiful, then we don’t measure up—we are not enough. " But the Truth is: "We are fearfully and wonderfully made."
To sum this up no matter at what age in life we are, even to Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers we need to strive to learn from the above article and from this quote,
Don’t be concerned about the outer beauty:
Don’t let it define you. Don’t let it cause you undue stress. Don’t make it your most important priority. Don’t let it replace the more important parts of your life. Outer beauty is nothing more than packaging. And unless the inner content is good, too, the outer display won’t make any lasting difference.
Do be known for the inner beauty:
Outer beauty is the first impression someone gets of you; inner beauty is the second and lasting impression. We call it holistic beauty, and it’s real, honest, and lasting. It reveals the contents on the inside of the package that enhance the outer. You can’t fake holistic beauty—it’s the way we look, feel, think, and act."

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience ... And over all these virtues put on love..." (Colossians 3: 12,14a).

Thanks for reading, (IY)

Thankful for My Computer !!!

Another week has gone by, and if you are like me you wonder where it went.
We, here in our cozy nest are so comfortable, that "Time" never seems long,
in fact we never seem to have enough time to do it all, but that could be a result
of not being organized, so we’ll leave it at that.
Seeing it was another frigid day, it seemed a good day to go into the "family
history" that is recorded on the computer as well as book form, and spend some
time looking back on the generations before us and reflecting on the heritage we
have been left.
As I sorted through the information that I have been fortunate to gather by way
of Internet, and of being able to record it all on the computer, I count it a blessing.
Sometimes I have to stop and think what life was like before the computer,
I know it has brought us family through genealogy searching that we would not have
had, and also the opportunity to keep in touch with family and friends by way of e-mail
almost instantly.
So because my computer holds some very important information and is part of my life
I will insert this prayer-

Dear Lord,
Every single evening as I'm lying here in bed,
This tiny little Prayer keeps running through my head:
God bless all my family wherever they may be,
Keep them warm and safe from harm for they're so close to me.
And God, there is one more thing I wish that you could do;
Hope you don't mind me asking, please bless my computer too.
Now I know that it's unusual to Bless a motherboard,
But listen just a second while I explain it to you, Lord.
You see, that little metal box holds more than odds and ends.
Inside those small compartments rests my ancestors and my friends.
I know so much about them and the kindness they did give,
And this little scrap of metal takes me in to where they live.
By faith is how I know them much the same as you,
We share in what life brings us and from that our friendships grew.
Please take an extra minute from your duties up above,
To bless those in my address book that's filled with so much love.
Wherever else this prayer may reach to each relative and friend,
Bless each e-mail in-box, and each person who hits "send".
Amen
In Memory of Our Loved Ones

We always keep the memory of our loved ones in our hearts, and remember them all, however it is 52 weeks ago this evening that will be remembered in our minds for a long, long, time.
Our morning that day even started on a sad note in that we, along with Ada McBride and Gladys Weis were on our way to Mankota to attend the funeral of our cousin Shirley’s husband.
When we were on our way home, about Gravelbourg, our cell phone rang with Lew inquiring as to our whereabouts. Lew usually phones when we are travelling, so this phone call was not out of the ordinary, although I did detect some urgency. About twenty miles south of Moose Jaw, another call came from Lew, this time he indicated to me he had bad news, but please don’t say anything in the car, and that he would meet us at Ada’s house. If you know me (Irene),(which you do) every possible thought was running through my head, but not of what we were soon to hear. I know no words to express my feeling, some might say I appeared to have no outward feeling, but I know I was numb, in a state of shock and disbelief. From Ada’s house we all went to be with Calvin and Mary, and even though it was difficult to see the grief that Calvin and Mary were facing, what a welcome site to find our Kathy there trying to ease everyone’s pain with hugs, a hot cup of tea, and then Brett and Beckie bringing in food, although there were no appetites Kathy and the kids encouraged us to try and eat something. Lew of course was trying to assist Calvin as concerned family, but then at times his proffessionalizm was needed. What a blessing to have family concerned for each other, and our families are most blest.
I know the grief we had that night, but for my nieces and nephews, I can’t imagine yours.
However as we all have said, we don’t understand the events of life, but life goes on, and we live with our many memories.
I would like to end this posting on a lighter vain with two pictures that hold memories of a special vacation to Walt Disney World that we, Ed, Helen, Paul and Marg enjoyed together in 1991, plus so many Canasta Games.
Although fifteen years plus have passed we often recall the good time we had, and of course you will notice it does hold a memory of Marg as well. After all "memory is remembering"

Pictures taken at Epcot and Cypress Gardens

Some things are hard to understand

Yes I do realize it is seven days since I last posted, however my absence wasn't intentional. In the midst of this past week it seemed to do a posting was rather insignificant as we (both of us) have observed a situation of senior "adult abuse" being carried to the extreme. It has caused us to be emotionally shaken by what we have noted that took place. Yes there have been media reports of senior abuse taking place in some care homes, but in my mind this is far worse in that the abuse in question is being asserted to a parent by an only child who has legal power of attorney. No, I am not talking physical abuse, but there are other kinds, one being the denial of medical treatment and the refusal of proffessional health care.
During previous months help for proper care was sought out by our health care system, and by concerned family and friends, only to be denied by the one holding the power of attorney.
This past week the medical system once again made provisions for proper care to be provided, and also told the one holding the power of attorney, that they would not release the parent from hospital back into that individuals care
However, after defying all medical demands, and with much conniving by this Son/Daughter, the parent is now once again back in this undesirable situation, which for family and friends are left with, "how could this happen" and with few options, if any.
Concerned people, that include extended family, even to the health professionals and law enforcement have indicated that under our present laws their hands are tied. If this was a child who was suffering abuse from a parent or adult, the laws are such that the proper officials can remove the child from the situation. At first I was surprised that the law only protected the child, but then I thought its likely because parent abuse is very rare, now I am told that it is not as rare as we might think. So when it comes to dealing with senior abuse, apparently this can only be done by going through the legal system to obtain a court order, etc.
As you know I can not give specific details, and perhaps I have given more than I should have, but although adult abuse may be still somewhat rare, I think we all (no matter what age we are) need to realize that it is alive and active here in Moose Jaw. Perhaps some one may be able to influence our law givers to re-think the existing law.
So my reason for this posting is that it might sound some alarm bells, and cause us to have heads up to any kind of abuse that we may encounter, and also to have some feelings for the rights of the victim and less for the victimiser.(which is this case)
This has been a real live world reality check for us, that there are really people living about us who seem to have no concern and compassion, but rather would do harm rather than good.
I'm sure there is no parent or adult desiring any preferential treatment from their family, I know my parents didn’t, and neither do we, but treatment with respect and dignity will always be appreciated.

So my thought for the day "Remember that each of us in due time will advance to that stage of our life where we may require care that we can no longer give ourselves, when it comes, hopefully those needs will be met with compassion." (IY)

Yes I Missed a Day.

This daily posting has turned out to be something like a New Years resolution, easier to say, than to do, especially when you go visiting and don't get home in time.
So seeing I missed once it will be easier to miss again as now the pressure is off :)
Of course yesterday was Sunday with an opportunity to attend worship, and for those who heard Darin's message you know doubt took various thoughts home with you. For me it was "Things are not always as they appear to be". As I have thought on that, it really is true, and if we omit the word "things" and insert "people" that also seemed to apply, and then I put " I am" to read " I am not always the way I appear to be", this was getting too close personally and left alot of room for my own soul searching.

As for the "Survival Kit" posting, it was interesting to note from Brett that this had been used before, and Crystal, if you are thinking of using the illustration with tangible items, I have used the Hot Chocolate packet taken from a box of individual packets of Hot Chocolate.
Nothing too exciting happened today, unless removing unwanted items from dresser drawers and shelves is it. So as a result the spare bed is the resting place of some of those items, hopefully tomorrow I'll finish todays project.

So to close my post I will reflect back on my soul searching and leave with this thought. ( IY)
" It is far more impressive when others discover our good qualities with out out help"

AN EVERYDAY SURVIVAL KIT

This past week we have endured some severe cold weather, and the media has often been reminding their listeners to plan ahead, and carry a Survival Kit .Of course this is only for seasonal use, but here is a Survival Kit" for daily use, and it contains these items.
A Toothpick - to remind you to pick out the good qualities in others, Matt 7:1
A Rubberband - to remind you to be flexible, things might not always go the way you want, but it will work out...Rom 8:28
A Band Aid - to remind you to heal hurt feelings yours or someone elses... If by chance you checked out my post yesterday or should I say last evening, everything seemed to post OK until it came to my thought for the day. When I bring it up on my computer I get a very small line of nothing. I have tried to edit the post and when I view it, all seems to be fine, but when I re-publish it there doesn't seem to be any improvement. So experts what did I do wrong?????
Here it is Friday, and nearly ending the second week in January, hopefully our cold spell has past with warmer temperatures on the way.
This was another stay at home day, catching up on some household chores, and this afternoon, and this evening both of us worked on updating some computer files in the office,. Doesn't that sound like a full days work ???(IY)
Our thought for January 12th is " We never know which of the things we do will stay forever in our minds, so it's best to choose each action carefully"

We are in a "Deep Freeze"

I liked Beckie's title on her blog today of "Brrrrr". as by the Weather Network and of various comments by those who braved the elements it was really the kind of a day that we were glad that we could stay in.
My day was a normal Thursday as that begins with "laundry" seeing that is my scheduled time.
While I was making my way back and forth to the laundry room, I began to sense the smell of "Chili" cooking, to my pleasant surprise I soon found out that aroma was coming from our kitchen.
